India Decentralized Wastewater Innovation Challenge

Build Wastewater Infrastructure that Lasts.

IDWIC brings CSR funders, technology partners, universities, engineering advisors, and local implementation teams together to design, build, validate, and scale decentralized wastewater systems across India.

The Problem

India does not have an innovation problem. It has a sustainability problem.

Across India, many systems fail not because the technology is inherently weak, but because the solution is too complex for operators, poorly handed over, under-supported, or not designed around long-term maintenance.

If it cannot be operated, it cannot succeed.

Program Model

Build + prove + scale.

IDWIC operates through a controlled, real-world innovation model that moves from student-led solution design to pilot deployment, performance monitoring, and replication strategy.

01

Partner Onboarding

CSR, technology, university, advisor, and implementation partners align around scope and goals.

02

Innovation Challenge

Student teams develop complete solutions using proven technologies and expert guidance.

03

Pilot Build

The winning design is built in India as a real infrastructure project.

04

Monitoring

Partners collaborate on implementation, performance validation, data collection, and reporting.

05

Scale & Replicate

Successful solutions are positioned for large-scale replication across India.

Youth-Led Innovation

This is not vendor-driven.

The program mobilizes India’s future engineers through faculty-guided design, technical mentorship, and real infrastructure challenges. The goal is not a theoretical concept. It is a complete, field-ready solution designed for practical operation.

Operator Usability

Designed for the people who must run and maintain the system.

Training Systems

Built-in handover, documentation, and learning support.

Maintenance Protocols

Planning for the life of the system, not just the launch.

Long-Term Sustainability

Governed, monitored, and positioned for replication.

Governance + Financial Control

Controlled execution that CSR partners can trust.

The program is designed around a dedicated NGO-led structure, pre-approved budgets, milestone-based funding, transparency, auditability, and visible performance reporting.

Dedicated NGO

Program-controlled structure for governance, compliance, funds management, and partner coordination.

Pre-Approved Budgets

Line-item discipline protects the program from fragmented or undefined spending.

Milestone Funding

Funds release against verified progress instead of open-ended commitments.

Full Auditability

Reporting, tracking, oversight, and transparency are designed into the operating model.

Where You Fit

One initiative. Multiple roles. Shared impact.

CSR / Funding Partners

Fund and elevate the platform.

Enable the program, support governance, and help tell a national impact story aligned with ESG, public health, water, and sanitation priorities.

Technology Partners

Bring proven products into the challenge.

Provide product access, technical input, pilot implementation support, and performance validation opportunities.

Universities

Activate students and faculty.

Recruit student teams, provide academic oversight, and create high-value applied engineering experiences.

Engineering Advisors

Guide technical quality.

Review feasibility, evaluate submissions, shape implementation planning, and strengthen field readiness.

Implementation Partners

Make the pilot real.

Support local execution, operations, maintenance, training, and performance data reporting.

Program Team

Hold the center.

Manage execution, coordination, communications, compliance, governance, and financial oversight.
